REVIEW: PING GLIDE 2.0 WEDGES

Control Your Spin – Control Your Score
Wedges have often been called “scoring” clubs.  While everyone likes to hit huge drives and towering irons, there are many shots to be gained or lost around the green with wedges.  A good wedge game can make a scorecard look very good.  Directly correlated to scoring better with your wedges is the ability to control the spin of your ball.  Spin when you want it and release when you need it.  Ping’s Glide 2.0 wedges help control the spin so that you can control your score.
The Ping Glide 2.0 wedges are a refinement of the original Ping Glide wedges.  The redesign has different grooves, more grind options and no bending notch.  The wedges look cleaner and impart more spin to the golf ball.  Ping didn’t drastically change the looks which was a good call since the Glide line already offered great looks.  The slight tweak to the cavity gives the 2.0 wedges a little more angular looks and the removal of the bending notch.  Otherwise the cavity, tuning bar, the logos, and head shape are virtually the same.
Since moving to AZ I’ve found the turf to be much harder than the playing surfaces of MN and WI.  I orders the lower bounce option in the 58* Ping Glide 2.0 wedges which has the Tour Sole because I wanted to see if it would improve my turf interaction.  I have been really happy with this choice.  It clips the ball very cleanly off tight lies (which seem like all lies in AZ are tight).  I went with the standard sole in the 54* and 50* wedge which have a mid bounce design.  This worked out well for the mostly full shots I hit with these clubs.  They also tweaked the leading edge to make it just a little easier to get that crisp clean contact to better shots. The Ping Glide 2.0 wedges have really good feel because of the tuning bar across the back of the cavity.  While they are cast, they have a much softer feel because of the vibration damping design.
The Ping Glide 2.0 wedges really shine in the spin department because of the new grooves.  The grooves are sharper and closer together for more spin.  While more spin is always nice, the control of that spin is even more valuable.  These wedges can be manipulated to spin or roll out.  While all wedges can do this by your swing, these are some of the best at consistently doing exactly what you want.  The high spin rates are awesome on longer precise shots or tight chips that need to stop quickly, while being able to dial the spin back for long pitches is a nice feature.
I use the Ping Glide 2.0  50* and 54* wedge mostly to fill yardage gaps which they do perfectly, they have very high spin for gap wedges which is really nice for holding hard greens.  The 58* wedge has to do most everything else from sand shots to flops, and pitches to chips.  The new grooves, low bounce, and thin sole grind made this excellent from any lie.  I was able to get up and down from all over the place on the course.  The spin control of all 3 wedges allowed me to really score well with my short game.

Ping tweaked a very good wedge to make the Glide 2.0.  The new options and better grooves really help control the spin even more than the previous version so that now you can add more or take a little more off depending on your shot needs.  If you are looking for an off-the-rack wedge that offers great spin, good feel and excellent control, the Ping Glide 2.0 wedges might be your best option.  If you Control Your Spin, you can Control Your Score.
