Like most American golfers, I\u2019m just getting to know Honma.\u00a0 Having taken a look at a couple of their TW irons in the past, I was eager to check out the new TR20 line and see what changed and what remained the same. The TR20 P irons made a strong first impression, and I was hopeful that they would back that up with great performance.<\/p>\n

In the bag<\/strong>, the Honma TR20 P irons have\u00a0the look of a high end players club<\/strong>.\u00a0 The shape of the cavity is modern without being gaudy, and there\u2019s just enough engraving to hold your attention.\u00a0 Branding is fairly minimal, and the silver\/black\/gold color scheme is a winner.<\/p>\nAt address, there\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0a little more size than you might expect<\/strong>.\u00a0 This is a compact iron from heel to toe, but the top line is a touch thicker than most players irons.\u00a0 Similarly, the sole is a wider than expected.\u00a0 The offset is right on the edge of acceptable for this type of club.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/pluggedingolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Honma-TR20-P-Irons_7523.jpg\")

The impact feel of the TR20 P irons is noticeably firmer than their partner in the TR20 line, the TR 20 V.\u00a0 Striking the ball on the center of the face creates\u00a0a solid \u201cclap\u201d that feels premium<\/strong>.\u00a0 When contact wanders away from the sweet spot, the feel becomes noticable.\u00a0 While not pleasant, this does provide excellent feedback on your ball striking.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/pluggedingolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Honma-TR20-P-Irons_7526.jpg\")

I love when OEMs are forthright, and with the TR20 P irons, Honma is that.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cStrong lofts for distance\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0is the second bullet point on their website for the TR20 P.\u00a0 While these certainly aren\u2019t the strongest lofts I\u2019ve ever seen, they are strong for a players iron, and they\u2019re very effective at creating distance.<\/p>\nMuch like the TW 747 P irons, the TR 20 P irons produce\u00a0strong ball speed and low spin<\/strong>.\u00a0 That combination translates to a very strong ball flight with plenty of distance.<\/p>\nOne element of the TR20 P that didn’t surprised me is that I had no problem controlling my shots.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a particularly big iron and it didn’t feel bulky to me during the swing.\u00a0 The result was a steady diet of consistent draws with very little variety.\u00a0 Of course, that\u2019s how my swing interacted with this club and your results may differ.<\/p>\n
