forgiveness.\u00a0 All in a sleek, modern looking club with a home run sound.<\/p>\n Listening to Matt\u2019s podcast with Mike Fox one of TaylorMade Golf\u2019s Category Directors, it was clear that Mike considered working for TaylorMade a dream job.\u00a0 And who wouldn\u2019t?\u00a0 With a stable of stars representing one of the most recognized equipment names, anyone reading this would surely like to trade places.<\/p>\n Although most of those pros play the TaylorMade M3 Fairway wood for its adjustability and playability, the M4 has been seen in Dustin Johnson\u2019s bag for several tournaments.\u00a0 If you\u2019re looking for distance and forgiveness<\/strong>\u00a0in a fairway wood, read on.<\/p>\n I was never a fan of the black and white crown of the M2, but\u00a0I love the black and silver of the M4<\/strong>.\u00a0 The carbon fiber weave gives the head a\u00a0high tech look,\u00a0<\/strong>and that pop of red on the trailing edge seems to direct me to a solid takeaway path.\u00a0 The combination of colors and lines makes the head appear smaller than it is.<\/p>\n Flip the club over and\u00a0simplicity is the star<\/strong>.\u00a0 Without the weight track and adjustable hosel of the M3, the M4 sole is\u00a0sleek and ready for business<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Fujikura Atmos Red shaft seems the perfect complement to this TaylorMade M4 wood.<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t surprising to read in Matt\u2019s review of the M3 that the\u00a0impact sound is \u201csimilar to a wooden baseball bat<\/strong>,\u201d as that\u2019s exactly what my\u00a0field notes stated for the M4.\u00a0 Just like at a ball park, the sound is\u00a0distinctive<\/strong>\u00a0and grabs your attention, but doesn\u2019t make you flinch.\u00a0 TaylorMade calls this\u00a0Geocoustics<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the blend of head geometry and acoustical engineering.<\/p>\n The M4 feels\u00a0very stable at impact<\/strong>, even on off center strikes.\u00a0 There\u2019s\u00a0subtle feedback<\/strong>\u00a0in your hands, but hits feel solid unless you really get out on the toe or heel.\u00a0 I\u2019d attribute this to the long Speed Pocket behind the face and the split internal weighting.<\/p>\n While I was collecting data at Club Champion, I paused a few times to soak in what was on the big screen in front of me \u2013 and hoped one of the fitters might walk by.\u00a0 I had witnessed\u00a0great ball flight<\/strong>\u00a0on the driving range, but seeing the line painted right down the middle on the screen is something else.\u00a0 The TaylorMade M4 is billed as producing \u201cstraight distance<\/strong>\u201d and that\u2019s exactly the result I achieved.<\/p>\n Launch angle and spin rate were\u00a0very consistent<\/strong>, a testament to the forgiveness of the\u00a0Speed Pocket<\/strong>\u00a0and split weighting.\u00a0 Although adjustability has its merits, not having it in the hosel allowed the TaylorMade designers to redistribute the associated weight savings and\u00a0lower the center of gravity<\/strong>.\u00a0 That\u2019s really beneficial when hitting the M4 fairway wood off the deck.<\/p>\n For most golfers, the fairway woods only gets called upon a few times a round when reaching a par 5 in two is in play.\u00a0 The consistency and distance that the TaylorMade M4 wood demonstrated has me pondering also teeing it up
